Guest Post: Water Can Save your Knees!

The most devastating setback of any athlete or active person is definitely sustaining an injury. Almost always unexpected and often debilitating, an injury, particularly a serious one, can sideline you from your sport or hobby for a frustrating amount of time.

One of the most common injuries for a good number of athletes and sports enthusiasts is tearing, straining, bruising or otherwise damaging the muscles, ligaments or the joint in the knee. Your knees take a great beating during most activities and as a support for the rest of your body, without them you’re on the bench until fully healed. Without proper physical therapy your downtime can stretch on endlessly.

During the healing stage of an injury to a major joint like the knee, specially designed therapies in a physical therapy pool can be utilized with astonishing results. The water will act as a cushion for your injury, yet still allow you to stretch and work the area to regain lost strength and stability. Water buoyancy also seems to magically make about 90% of your body weight disappear which completely eliminates further or future injuries as a result of high impact while healing. Water allows us to do a great deal more with ease than we ever could on land, and yet the natural resistance ensures an exceptional workout every time.

Despite what you might think upon first impression, a physical therapy pool or a water treadmill are not just to aide in the healing process. They are also an excellent option for those with compromised or fragile joints or those with limited mobility for reasons other than injury. These are just a few of the reasons that people from all walks of life- from the professional athlete to the weekend jogger down the street- are utilizing the water treadmill in both commercial and residential applications.

It also means an end to running in nasty weather and I don’t think anyone could complain about that.

LOVE YOUrself Valentine Challenge

You know the movie, Amelie?  Where she takes her Dad's garden gnome and has it photographed in places around the world, then sends the pictures back to her bewildered Dad?  Well, I want to try something similar with these Valentine's cards.

I want to tell you all what I admire about you on these cards AND I want to know what you are most proud of.  Everyone deserves a little encouragement and to show off what they've accomplished...so read on if you're interested!

These 36 cards come with a cute little skull tattoo, and I want to see where/where they can be photographed!  Where, as in on the body (keep it PG, please) and where as in places around the country/world.  If you want to participate, all you need to do is send me your address (don't worry, I'm not a psycho, and I definitely don't like spam either, so the address is safe with me).  Then, when you get your Valentine, put the tattoo on the part of your body that you are most proud of because of running/life/fitness/etc.  Take a picture of the tattoo and e-mail it back to me with 1) why you chose that body part and 2) where you're from.  Get creative!  Once I get the responses, I would like to share them on the blog.  You may remain anonymous on the blog if you wish, just let me know.

What do you think?

Two of Goober's many faces:
We're going for a run???
Yay!
Yesterday Goob & I took advantage of the sunny (yet cold) weather and went to the trail for a run.  Originally I planned on going 4 miles, but decided why not make it 5?  As long as Goober was warm and stayed happy, five miles was the plan.  I swear, Gizmo is the Goober sleeping pill...as soon as those wheels start turning, she is OUT.  It's awesome!  Even towards the end of the run when Goober woke up, she was perfectly content with her bink and doing a little sightseeing. :)

Photo op with my shadow? What? Sun? Wow!
The miles flew by and I realized that I'm getting the hang of this jogging stroller stuff!  By the way, Jessie asked what kind of stroller Gizmo is a while back: it's a Baby Trend Expedition with a non-swivel front wheel.  Since it's a hand-me-down from a friend, I'm not sure how old it is, but the exact model is not on the website anymore.  It's pretty easy to fold and transport, and it's got a great amount of storage space under the seat.  Not sure how much it weighs, and I don't know the standard for a jogger, but it's not too heavy for me.  Easy to maneuver as well, unless you happen to run on garbage day...then swerving around your neighbors' trash cans can be tricky.

If you don't have a kid to push around in a jogger, then you should borrow one...it's a serious ab and arm workout!  My core is tired from "twisting" more (taking place of using my arms when running), and my arms are tired from pushing that thing!  Gizmo is officially my "drag suit" for marathon training (swimmers will know what I mean, if not, THIS explains it).  My first mile was at a crazy 9:40 pace!  I've been hovering around this pace without the jogger, so I know I need to step up my game a bit.  HIIIII-YA!

At the end of the run, Miss Goober was still a happy little baby in her moo-cow hat.  And I was a happy, sweaty mum. :)

Do you Whooga?

I'm so excited to be reviewing a pair of Whooga Ugg Boots right now!  I wasn't aware that the term "ugg boot" was about a TYPE of footwear: sheepskin.  I thought it was a brand.  Not true!  There are a bunch of ugg boot makers located in Australia, and Whooga is a premium manufacturer of a genuine sheepskin ugg boot

Per Wikipedia:

Currently, I'm testing out Whooga's Tall Black Ugg Boot.  I must tell you that I was/is a skeptic about ugg boots in general, so I will be completely honest and critical in my full review.  Stay tuned...
To me, the black looks pretty neat
FINALLY, here's the deal: if there is enough buzz generated by my site/review of the product, there could be a chance at a giveaway of a pair of boots.  How awesome would that be?!  So please be sure to check out this great company and their product HERE.

In the meantime, if you fall in love with the a pair of Whooga ugg boots before reading my review, you can get 10% off your order by using the coupon code 1402ZOERUN at checkout.  Sweet.

Nekkid Semis in the Mail!
